The Push: A New Decade for a New You

An Intentional Decade

Welcome to 2020, my friends! Here we are at an undeniably perfect time to implement change in your life. It’s a new day in a new week in a new month in the new year in a new decade. Yes, I said it. NEW DECADE. We are about to get down and dirty with reflections, dreams, and goals. Did you seriously expect anything different? It is time to intentionally craft the perfect goals to achieve your best life during this decade!

I suggest purchasing a planner or journal, something fun and inspirational that will serve as a record of your thoughts and ideas. Imagine reading it ten years from now, on December 31, 2030, and saying, “I AM a Badass!”.

The Present You

While working on life-changing goals for yourself, let’s start with where you are now. I find it easiest to begin by taking an honest look at today. Ask yourself, what areas of your life do you want to improve? What is not working for you? What are your struggles and fears?

If answering these simple questions happens to be one of your struggles, I can only assume one of two things. Either you are already living your dream life, or you have landed in a spot in life where you stopped dreaming! Perhaps you are in a place to be completely content accepting life as is. Or maybe you are in a place of complete exhaustion. Maybe it is a place where you simply go through the motions of each day, taking comfort in routine. Believe it or not, even a shitty routine can bring comfort with its familiarity. The problem with comfort is that stagnation often accompanies it.

NEWSFLASH

It has been my experience during times of stagnation that I end up getting a push from the Universe. That is just how God works. Everything under his power seems to align at just the right moment to push you into the change you had been avoiding. The push to take action is NOT always pleasant. So why wait for it? You already know what is upon your heart and the change you want to see.

So let me ask you again, What do you need to change in your life? What is that thing you have been putting off? What is not serving you well? Dig deep into your daily grind and be completely transparent with yourself.

The Past You

Now let’s take a look back ten years. For me, this exercise serves as a sad reminder of un-kept resolutions and dreams unfulfilled. What about you? Ten years ago, at the start of 2010, did you dream ahead? Did you set goals for the decade or just the year? If yes, did you attain them? Are you where you thought you would be in ten years? For me, that is a hard NO! I am in a much better spot in life than I was ten years ago, but nowhere near where I thought I would be. Ten years is a long time to accomplish dreams, right? Wrong! Ten years will fly by in the blink of an eye! You need a plan. Let’s get intentional with our time and our actions.

In the philosophy of Dean Graziosi, can you afford to let another ten years go by without changing? NO! In case you can’t hear me, I’m screaming at you (and myself), NO! Dean Graziosi’s podcast, Millionaire Success Habits, is one of my favorites! Dean provides success habits to teach others how he moved from poverty to wealth. For motivation on making impactful change, listen to this 10-minute episode

The Future You

My dear Wildflowers, it’s time to dream again. Look ten years ahead at your future self.

  • What do you look like?
  • Where do you live?
  • What is your occupation?
  • How does your daily routine look?

Dream big and make it your best life!! Make sure your dream is full of abundant peace, love, and joy! By the way, who is in your life? Are there relationships you need to let go to make room for relationships you need to make?

Another motivational podcast I listen to is Rachel Hollis. Much like Dean Graziosi, she also offers a great success story. In podcast #72, Rachel gives instructions on following her daily practice that changed her life. She affectionately refers to it as 10-10-1.

Though I strongly encourage you to listen to the full episode, I have summarized her action steps for you here:

  1. Journal about your best life ten years from now. Write as much as you can, as fast as you can, in the most significant way possible.
  2. Write ten dreams that move you towards your best life.
  3. Take one dream from your list and make it your first goal. Choose the one thing you can accomplish the fastest.

Her philosophy is that all other dreams and goals will naturally follow if you work on and accomplish one goal. She uses the example of boats in a harbor to demonstrate her idea. When the tide rises, all boats rise! It makes sense, right! We are all connected, and all that is in our life is connected. Let’s start rising!

By the way, her podcast is called “Rise.” How appropriate! I have included the link below to listen to the full version of Rachel Hollis’s 10-10-1 daily practice. Once again, I highly recommend taking the time to listen to the full episode.

New Found Freedom

To conclude, I want to leave you with a lesson my sweet little Jax taught me earlier this week. Jax is our toy breed Aussie-doodle weighing in at a whopping 6 pounds. Aside from the occasional slice of bacon, he desires human affection more than anything else. Unfortunately, his tiny little legs just aren’t long enough for him to jump on the couch for snuggles at will.

In an effort to help Jax, we purchased doggie stairs for the couch. We hoped to give Jax the freedom and independence to come and go on the couch as he pleases. The stairs would serve as a gateway to what he desired most.

Introducing Jax to his new stairs proved to be a frightening experience for him. We pushed the doggie stairs next to the couch. But with his tiny body standing beside the stairs, he looked up at them with defeat as if I was asking him to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. He finally began to wag his tail with excitement and carefully sniff with curiosity. But ultimately, he just laid down without even trying.

He did so until I grabbed his favorite treat, that is. Yep, BACON! I placed the bacon on the couch, just above the top step. Don’t judge me. In this moment, I’d rather have a happy dog than a pretty couch. I then placed Jax on the bottom step to help him get started. Of course, the bacon was JUST the motivation he needed. He ran up the steps as fast as he could, pushing through his fear to reach the bacon. Not long after his first attempt, Jax quickly mastered the doggie stairs. With a bit of motivation and help, we now have an extremely happy dog with new-found freedom!

A Few Challenging Questions

Now let me ask you, what is your new-found freedom waiting on the other side of fear? What motivation is more powerful than your fear? Your “Why” in life might be the most essential part of your journey towards growth. Your “Why” must be strong enough to keep you moving forward. It must live so deep in your soul that it is harder to turn back than to move forward.

In the upcoming months of this new decade, I will be taking a deeper look at some ugly truths. I will share with you the struggles and accomplishments. Yes, I said struggles. It is important to note that change is hard. But more importantly, staying the same is even harder!

Call To Action

Let’s grow together in this new decade! Now that you have reflected back, dreamed forward, and set a goal for today, I invite you to share with me! Please share with me how your intentional decade is going to look. Share with me the freedoms which lie on the other side of your fears. What are your fears? What is the motivation strong enough to push you through those fears?

Our support for each other will only strengthen us and add to our success. In case you have not yet read my bio, I AM a natural-born cheerleader never wearing the uniform. Who doesn’t need a cheerleader in their life? Wildflowers, don’t make me grow in this beautiful field alone! Please share your stories with me at wildflowersoul70@gmail.com.

Before leaving, I want you to ask yourself a few questions. Do I struggle with confidence? Do I let fear hold me back from accomplishing my dreams? Finally, does my self-worth frequently get in the way of living my best life? Is there any area of your life where you lack joy and abundance?

If you answered “Yes” to any of these questions, then welcome to my world, my friend! Won’t you please join my beautiful field of Wildflowers where we can grow together! Send me a message at Wildflowersoul70@gmail.com so that you can be the first to know when I launch my “Wildflower Soul” website!
